Some of you know, some of you don't, so here is the lowdown of Christopher. When we took the twins in for their 4 year check-up, the doctor was concerned that Christopher's testes had not "dropped". They should be lower considering he is 4 now. Se he referred us to a pediatric urologist.
Our first attempt to go see one was on July 31st. Tri-care made an apt for me at Langley. I was surprised at this since I had been told we would either go to Portsmouth or to a Dr outside the military. But I went with it since I clarified several times when they made the apt that it was for my 4 year old son.
When we arrived, 15 minutes early mind you, we checked in and sat down to wait. 30 minutes later (15 minutes past our apt time) they called us up to desk to inform us that our apt had been cancelled and that Tri-care should have called us to let us know. Nice, huh? So, they got Tri-care on the phone. Tri-care informed me that my phone was dis-connected. (Really? Cuz I used it that day and it worked just fine!) Likely story. They then said they mailed me a letter letting me know the apt was cancelled. (Really? Cuz if I got the letter, why was I standing at the Dr office?) Anyway, I had to re-schedule with a true pediatric urologist. (Really? Cuz I ASKED that question SEVERAL times when I amde the original apt!) Whtever! The letter FINALLY showed up in the mail. Tri-care said they mailed it on the 24th. The date on the letter was the 24th alright. The postmark on the letter however was the 28th. So much for honesty, right?
So, today was our "new" apt with the pediatric urologist at CHKD. We get there nice and early. Checked in. Everything went great. We go back to the room. Dr comes in. He was very nice. (Thank goodness!) He checks Christopher out. Seems that his tetses are very high. They are up in the body cavity and have not dropped. The Dr can "move" them down into the scrotum. (Fun times! Although Christopher laughed the whole time because he said it tickled!) But they do not "reside" in the scrotum. Right now out plan of action it to follow up in 6 months. The Dr feels that Christopher may have "retractable" testes. If that is the case, then it should resolve itself over time. If not, then my little man will have have some surgery ot correct the problem. If not, he would be at higher risk for fetility problems as well as testicular cancer later in his life. So, for the next six months my job as mom is to "pay attention" when he is in the bath and is "warm". If the testes drop on their own in those situations, then they are indeed retractable and we will nt have to really worry about it. If they don't well, then...I will cross that when I get there! So please pray for retractable. While the surgery would be minor, it would be MAJOR to me since my babies have been VERY healthy!
So, there you have it, probably more than you ever wanted to know about Christopher! But it is an update!
